Advanced* Piano Student Lesson Requirements:


The Advanced Piano Student will be very familiar with the keyboard, and demonstrate proficiency to play Beethoven Sonatas, Op. 2, No. 1, Op. 49 No. 1-2, and Chopin Nocturnes. They will also possess a more thorough theoretical understanding of advanced chord functionality, tendency, and quality; They will begin to approach scores and analyze them using rudiments of Roman Numeral Analysis. The student will approach intermediate harmony and counterpoint.



•Piano Lessons: Once a Week, One Hour.


The Advanced Student will require an hour of studio lesson time per week. The student will be expected to be at the very end of grade books, if not completely graduated into strictly studying piano literature. The Student will begin tackling larger scale works in their entirety, such as an entire Sonata or Suite.



•Theoretical Lessons: Twice a Month, Thirty Minutes.


The Advanced Student will approach both their own works and others for analysis to further comprehension and understanding. Theoretical studies will solely focus on aiding artistic interpretation at the piano. Through use of Musicology, Theory, Harmony, and Counterpoint, the student will begin formulating their own ideas about the proper execution and interpretation of the literature they are playing.





*A performance evaluation and written examination will be administered to ascertain level of qualification and proficiency on the piano. Those with formidable physical aptitude lacking equivalent theoretical aptitude will be placed according to physical aptitude, with additional theoretical lessons required to balance both disciplines as necessary.
