Intermediate* Piano Student Lesson Requirements:


An Intermediate Piano Student should have proficiency to play Bach: Selections from Anna Magdalena’s Notebook, and Burgmuller Op. 100. Additionally, the student should possess a basic theoretical understanding of note names across octaves and ledger lines, various staves, Key Signatures, Chord Qualities, and Basic Structures in Music, such as Sonatas and Waltzs.



Piano Lessons: Once a Week, One Hour.


The Intermediate Student will require an hour of studio lesson time per week. The student will be expected to begin approaching established literature outside of the exercises of the Grade Level Books of Bastien and John Thompson. The beginnings of fine detail will emerge in lesson time.



•Theoretical Lessons: Twice a Month, Thirty Minutes.


The Intermediate Student will begin to use more of the keyboard, and will be expected to have a stronger proficiency in sight reading across ledger lines and clef changes. The student will begin studying basic Harmony and Counterpoint, and identify essential chord qualities by sound.





*A performance evaluation and written examination will be administered to ascertain level of qualification and proficiency on the piano. Those with formidable physical aptitude lacking equivalent theoretical aptitude will be placed according to physical aptitude, with additional theoretical lessons required to balance both disciplines as necessary.
