Prospective Students Learning the piano may seem like a daunting task, and though we may not all be a Franz Liszt in our skill, we can certainly approach an instrument that is typically more foregiving than other musical pursuits. For unlike the wind instrument, you will not find an impediment due to your facial bone structure. Unlike the strings, you will not feel helplessly out of tune searching for the right pitch aside from the worry of articulating it. Unlike the voice, we can sound like frogs when we sing, and yet the piano will sound as beautifully as ever it did. The piano is a rewarding instrument, a personal confidant that holds our deepest secrets and desires, a joyful friend that enriches our lives as we grow in our relationship with the instrument. The piano is both impressive and humble, easily a concert instrument that can hold its own against a full orchestra, or the most delicate flower in the hands of a Chopin Mazurka. People who study and play music have higher performance in their jobs, better stress control, and a constructive outlet for emotional release. It is the greatest joy of my life to share the study and understanding of Music with my students; the highest moral calling is sharing your love with others. To know that I can bring others into communion with the world of music stuns me, both for the awesome responsibility of the task and the rare luck in getting to be a bringer of musical joy to others.
